51CrV4 is a high quality, alloyed spring steel known for its excellent spring properties and high tensile strength. The steel can withstand repeated deformation or compression without permanent deformation, making it suitable for various spring types.51CrV4 offers high tensile strength, typically in the range of 900 to 1100 megapascals (MPa), depending on heat treatment and other factors. The high strength is essential for spring applications. To optimise its properties, 51CrV4 often undergoes heat treatment processes, such as quenching and tempering. This process helps to achieve the desired hardness and spring properties. It is important to note that the brittleness of the steel becomes higher after hardening. Therefore, any machining, such as bending, be made before hardening is carried out. Thin material can sometimes be bent in the hardened condition, but some consideration must be given to the fact that the material may have some springback.Used for parts where medium hardness, strength and toughness are required. Typical applications are shafts, connecting rods, gears, piston rods. 51CrV4 is also commonly used in automotive components such as leaf springs and coil springs. Can be hardened harder than Ck75. Working temperature from -40 to 225 °C
