C15 is a low-alloy carbon steel with relatively simple composition and properties that is often used in applications where moderate strength and good machinability are required.C15 is classified as a low to medium carbon steel, containing approximately 0.12 to 0.18% carbon by weight. Although carbon is the primary alloying element in C15, it may contain small amounts of other elements such as manganese, phosphorus and sulphur, depending on manufacturing standards and requirements. The relatively low carbon content means that it does not have the high hardness and strength of the higher carbon steels in the C series, such as C45 and C60. C15 has a moderate tensile strength which is usually around 430 to 470 megapascals (MPa). It can undergo heat treatment processes such as quenching and tempering to improve its mechanical properties, particularly its strength and toughness. One of the main advantages of C15 is its excellent machinability. It can be easily machined, turned, milled and drilled. It is generally considered to be weldable without any special requirements for preheating or post-weld heat treatment.C15 is generally used for the manufacture of various types of fasteners, such as screws, bolts and nuts. It is also suitable for making shafts, pins and other mechanical components that require moderate strength and good machinability. Due to its versatile properties, C15 is often used in a wide range of general engineering components and machine parts.
