17-4 PH is a martensitic, precipitation hardening, stainless steel that is accepted in a wide range of industries.

Through a very useful combination of high strength and hardness, excellent corrosion resistance and easy heat treatment, this alloy becomes important for designers and engineers.

The manufacture of 17-4 PH follows many methods established for the common grades of stainless steel. The material gives excellent welding properties, can be forged or cast and is well machined. The normal hardening process requires only a temperature of 482 - 624 °C (900 - 1150 °F) and is completed by air cooling, virtually eliminating scale and distortion. Additional properties include high resistance to cracking, good mechanical properties in the radial direction and proven resistance to stress corrosion cracking in marine environments. Through a simple and inexpensive manufacturing process, it can sometimes be profitable to replace low-alloy materials with 17-4 PH stainless steel.

17-4PH can be obtained in different heat treatments. The table below shows the different conditions with their respective strength values.

Since the turn of the year 2021/2022, Livallco Stål began a collaboration with AK Steel International, a world-leading stockholder of 17-4Ph. Since then, Livallco Stål has been the exclusive distributor of AK Steel International's products in Sweden.
