The steel grade 13CrMo4-5 is a low alloy chromium-molybdenum steel grade with relatively low carbon content used for high temperature applications up to 500°C. The addition of chromium and molybdenum gives it high resistance to corrosion and oxidation at high temperatures. This steel grade is typically used for the manufacture of pressure vessels, pipelines and parts in the power generation industry where high mechanical loads and high temperatures occur. It is also a common steel grade for the manufacture of heat exchangers and components subject to high pressure and high temperatures.

13CrMo4-5 has good mechanical properties at both high and low temperatures and is also known for its good weldability and formability. Its high resistance to corrosion and oxidation at high temperatures makes it a reliable steel grade for use in demanding applications such as boilers and compressed air tanks. To summarise, 13CrMo4-5 is a high performance, low alloy chromium-molybdenum steel grade suitable for use in high temperature applications requiring high resistance to corrosion and oxidation.

Applications for 13CrMo4-5

Steel is widely used in the power industry and in the chemical industry. It is mainly used to manufacture various types of

  • pressure vessel
  • steam boilers
  • turbine blade
  • compressed air tank
  • pipework

As a material, 13CrMo4-5 is particularly suitable for use in fittings that need to be able to transport steam or liquid at high temperatures. Such fittings can be, for example, superheating pipes or steam and discharge channels.

Characteristics of 13CrMo4-5

The steel has properties that make it particularly suitable for the manufacture of, for example, steam boilers, pipework and compressed air containers. 13CrMo4-5 is a material with

  • relatively low carbon content
  • good machining properties
  • good weldability
  • maintains high strength even at higher temperatures
  • good cold and hot moulding properties

The structure of the 13CrMo4-5 material allows the steel to resist the deformation and hardening that can occur during mechanical processing. This property means that soft annealing or similar heat treatment is not required before machining.
